COMPOSITION FOR FIVE BODIES AND KINECT - ROLLING STONES MAG EXCLUSIVE
"Composition for Five Bodies and Kinect" is a performance in which the body functions as the musical instrument.
This is achieved with a 3D camera ablet o map the joints of a human body, then tracking their movements which are translated to musical impulses.
My art project is based on the idea of the body itself as the ultimate instrument of expression and communication, without the use of any other objects to hold, wear or touch. Interacting directly with a virtual sound-space, the essence of the expression is contained in the movement.
The person performing is the composer, the music player, the instrument and even the orchestra.
This is demonstrated by "Composition for Five Bodies and Kinect", where by one performer is recorded multiple times playing a range of sounds that combine into something akin to a chamber music ensemble.
The possibilities of this new "instrument" are limited only by ones imagination.

Novation's Launchpad is a control surface built to take advantage of Ableton Liveʼs unique Session View interface. The Launchpad is composed of 64 square buttons, each one containing an LED capable of producing 3 colors. There are several ways to use the Launchpad to manage the creative process, or use it as a production/performance tool. Utilizing many of them to operate and control Live emulates a modular system.
